Bracciano is a town on the outskirts of Rome, located on a hill overlooking the 'lake of the same name, also known as Lake Sabatino, and home to one of the most important castles of feudal origin, and for structural, architectural and excellent state of preservation, is one of the most important castles in Italy, the Orsini-Odescalchi Castle.

The origins date back to medieval times of Bracciano, from the small village of fishermen and farmers situated on one of the many fortresses built by the nobles to defend themselves from enemy invasions in the eleventh century., A thriving town linked to one of the most powerful families in Italy in the fifteenth sec., the Orsini family, who transformed the fortress castle.

The Orsini-Odescalchi Castle has its origins in the late eleventh century, when the family turned the tower OF VICO into small  fortress. But the great transformation of the castle was ordered by Napoleone Orsini in 1470. The castle has given hospitality to Pope Sixtus IV, fleeing  from Rome because the city was devastated by the plague, and the king of France, Charles VIII, to whom we owe the construction of an embankment known as The Sentinel, which has become an important vantage point. The charm of the castle is also wrapped in a mystery, the ghost of Isabella dei Medici. ISABELLA DEI MEDICI, wife of Paolo Giordano Orsini, was strangled with a silk ribbon from her own husband, tired of the constant betrayals. It seems that Isabella loved to spend his evenings with various lovers but at night they were led into a room where there was a trap door, and blades made of lime, and thrown inside. The trap door, now walled up, is shown to visitors of the castle giving them a 'set of emotions, including suggestion and curiosity. Frescoes and furniture of  the period help to make the tour  for visitors a  unique experience.

Lake Bracciano
with its 60 km2 in diameter and 160 meters deep, occupies a 'set of the cavity of the Monti Sabatini crater, a basin is fed by underground springs and thermal waters including Vicarello. It uses two emissaries: the 'ARRONE that flows into the Tirreno sea surplus waters of the lake, and the 'WATER PAUL bringing water to Rome powering fountains and gardens of the Vatican. Along its shores is located the MUSEUM OF 'AIR FORCE, in a Vineyard Valley, home of the  oldest military airport of Italy and home to the first aeronautical experimental site for the construction of airships and seaplanes. It provides the opportunity for visitors to admire planes and the engines that represent the 'evolution of' Air Force in Italy, including photographic equipment, radio, weapons and equipment on board. All this makes the Museo Dell 'Air Force the major Italian and European institutions. But the shores of Lake Bracciano are also a blend of natural beauty that make the place beautiful, giving birth to a tourist destination not yet frequented by mass tourism. It  is destination for canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, boat trips (there is the possibility to go around the lake on the boat), mountain biking, horseback riding and trekking.
